Where to Stay for Pittsburgh Holiday Market

If you have never been to Pittsburgh, take an extra day to look around. There are museums, historical locations, arts, and sports – all downtown. And the restaurants in Pittsburgh are varied and outstanding! Admittedly I’m a bit biased, having grown up in the area.

In need of a place to stay? Here are some quick recommendations for hotels near Peoples Gas Holiday Market ™ :

Budget: EVEN Hotels Downtown. Right next to the Convention Center and about 1 mile from the Andy Warhol Museum, this is a good, no-frills hotel. Offering American breakfast, and on-site restaurant (Cork & Kale), this budget-friendly gem even has a ping-pong table!

Mid-Range: Omni William Penn Hotel. One of my favorite hotels, and a place where you will find traditional elegance in a quiet setting. History abounds in Pennsylvania and this hotel is no exception. Excellent staff made our stay perfect. We have been back several times.

Luxury: Fairmont Pittsburgh. If you are looking for a lush hotel, this is a good choice. First-class amenities, professional staff, and easy access to everything in downtown Pittsburgh make the Fairmont an easy choice for those seeking a luxurious base.

What to Eat at Pittsburgh Peoples Gas Holiday Market ™

Like to nibble while Christmas shopping? There is plenty to eat and drink at this holiday wonderland.

Apple Strudel

My philosophy during the holidays is ‘dessert first’ and apple strudel is one of my favorites.

Bratwurst

A type of German sausage made from veal, beef, or most commonly pork, bratwurst is a must try at the Peoples Gas Holiday Market. Usually fried or cooked on a grill, my Grandmother’s were always veal and delicious!

Easy to eat while walking – this is definitely a great quick snack while you wait for Santa.

Hot Apple Cider & Hot Chocolate

There is nothing more perfect than sipping hot apple cider or hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day. Grab a cup while browsing through the Alpine-style stalls. We always do.

What to Buy at Pittsburgh Peoples Gas Holiday Market ™

Come winter, the Market Square is transformed into a charming European-inspired holiday market complete with festive lights and wooden chalets!

Here are some items you can look forward to while browsing.

Candles & Spices

Unique scented soy candles inspired by home and hearth- blending the aromas of flowers, herbs, and spices. These make perfect stocking stuffers or last minute gifts for the surprise dinner guest.

Unique Ornaments

It is easy to find little remembrances at this market. Funny, elegant and one of a kind handmade items. On our last trip we picked up an ornament of the Liberty Bell. It sits at the top of our tree!

Handcrafted Pottery

You’ll be enchanted with hand crafted and painted Spanish pottery perfect as a gift or for use on your Holiday table. We bought a large red, green and gold platter just before Thanksgiving. Our Turkey never looked better!

Extra Tips for Visiting the Pittsburg Market

Check the Weather & Dress Warmly

Pittsburgh weather in November & December is chilly – with below-freezing temperatures at night. Also, comfortable shoes for walking are a must.

Bring Cash

Most vendors accept credit cards, but some do not. You wouldn’t want to miss out on that special nutcracker! Lucking the public bus, the Port Authority operates a free-fare T zone – within Downtown Pittsburgh.
